Luxury Onboard

Helix

The idea of customised vacations is passé – this luxury ketch standing at 45 meters is adorned with serene indulgences and adventurous water toys. Vandana Rana goes cruising with the smartly designed Helix, the fi rst Feadship luxury yacht, on an Asia tour this year.

She is the ultimate blend of elegant lines, fi ne details and contemporary style. Embark upon this epitome of luxury, which was launched in 2011 and has become the fi rst Feadship ketch to tour the far-eastern realms including Hong Kong, Hainan, Singapore and Jakarta. She made her debut in the Singapore Yacht Show in April this year and just the fi rst glimpse was enough to capture the attention of luxury yacht connoisseurs. The 45-metre Helix has also fetched the World’s Superyacht Award that makes it even more special. Built by the 163-year old luxury yacht-making brand Feadship, the company has been known to make boats for royalty – including the likes of the Shah of Iran and the Queen of the Netherlands – since the thirties. Today, the company is designing customised yachts ranging between 40 to 100 meters and keeping the promise to set new standards of innovation with every creation.

Built with perfect craftsmanship and superior technology, Helix produces 1055 bhp power with 2x MTU 12V2000M70 main engines and comfortably reaches a maximum speed of 14.5 knots. The aesthetics of the yacht complement the natural oceanic environment, yet it is classic and stylish. Conceptualised by De Voogt Naval Architects and Sinot Design Associates, the exterior silhouette of the Helix combines rich styling with elegant lines making it a timeless jewel of the ocean. The overall design features clear shapes, well-defi ned curves and sophisticated detailing. The interiors spell opulence in each stroke – light-fabric-covered walls in mahogany wood casings accentuated by contrasting materials and the ambience highlighted with discerning furniture.

The four-storey pleasure boat is divided into a sundeck, bridge deck, main deck and lower deck with the layout planned for complete privacy and utmost pleasure. Relax at the aft of the bridge deck where you can open the doors and watch the early morning bustling activities on the quay from the privacy of a lovely space. The bridge deck aft is a pleasant place to dine, under the shade provided by the sundeck. In fact, you have many more options to dine at with spaces available for scores of guests when hosting a social or business event. The sundeck boasts an aft and a Jacuzzi that tempts you to jump right in and unwind. The bridge deck has a calm lounge area with interiors made of teak wood, an extensive hall, a multipurpose room, a pantry and a wheelhouse. It also has a sheltered balcony – a perfect spot to spend a romantic evening.

The huge main deck casts a warm and distinguished atmosphere as it has four luxurious guest suites with attached bathrooms. And, the main lounge area gives you a 360-degree view of the stunning oceanic panorama. The master stateroom is especially designed for the owners to relax, enjoy and indulge themselves during exotic vacations or business cruises. The lounge area can conveniently be used for celebrations, parties and cocktails before heading out to an epicurean dinner, on or off board. The warm and comfortable lower deck of the Helix has a beach platform that connects you to the ocean. The yacht also has a special area for your lazarette – you can go touring and exploring the waters. The large galley is discreetly concealed on the lower deck, with food lifts that serve the pantries at every level of the yacht. An incredible amount of refrigeration and storage means you will never run out of your favourite gourmet supply. Rest of the area of the deck encompasses the engine room, captain’s cabin, crew mess, laundry room and comfortable crew quarters.

There are two ways to enjoy your vacations – either you indulge in ultimate serenity or choose to go for extreme adventures. Take a break and enjoy the opulence. Relax as you cruise through idyllic waters and touch shores of exotic spots. Fancy Santorini or maybe ‘magnifi que’ Monaco? And, when the inkling for adventure surfaces, the water sport toys at Helix will keep you engaged – from peacefully kayaking through the waves, to diving in the ocean deep, to wakeboards and wave-runners.
